The movie is set in the backdrop of a small village in Tamil Nadu, where a young man named Kaala (played by Dhanush) returns to his native village after spending 25 years in Mumbai. Kaala's life takes a dramatic turn when he learns about the injustices faced by his community at the hands of a ruthless landowner, Muthusamy (played by Vijayakumar).
